I never knew art could be made out of styrofoam. So I developed new art making skills. I used new material and with that I just started cutting until I saw some sort of art. I wasn't satisfied at some points, but I kept adding more shapes on to it. I later decided I wanted more texture so I added the triangles sticking out. After I was content with my project I looked for the base and later chose the colors I wanted. I didn't want it too crazy so I chose two simple colors.

Most of the time people will choose fun over boring. The fun theory is taking something boring and testing out a fun way to do it. Will people find things helpful if they're more fun? In this video it shows how many people chose the piano stairs than the escalators. This shows how making the stairs fun helps people be more active and healthier. One "boring" thing that I think would help if we made fun is waiting for your ride. I think that we could make it fun by having an entertaining touch screen with games relating to your card ride.

This video made me realize that many obstacles will come your way throughout your life, preventing you from accomplishing your dreams. When an obstacle pops up, you can either let it bring you down or you can take advantage of it to become or do something bigger. For example, when Phil Hansen discovered he had a shake in his hand, he at first was upset, but then, he tried to find ways to keep doing what he loved. Now, he does amazing artwork because he thought outside the box. If it wasn't for his shake he wouldn't have made all his amazing work. He didn't let it stop him.
I reflected.I stepped back a reflected a lot on this project. After putting on the horn I stepped back and imagined how I wanted to draw the eyes and what color. Since it's a "dark unicorn" I wanted to do red, evil looking eyes. I then stepped back again and looked for what was missing. I was very indecisive on whether to add a mouth because I still wanted it to have that evil look. I didn't add a mouth because I liked how mysterious it looked. Unicorns have ears because they're horses so I added ears. At first I didn't know what else was missing, but then we decided that adding a little silver glitter to the eyes would make it pop more. Finally, I stepped back once more and I still felt like something was still missing, and then Ms. Schumann gave me the idea to add a tail. After this it felt complete and I had finished.
I learned new techniques using cardboard. A unicorn needs a horn in order to be a unicorn, so we had to find a way for the hor the stick and stay up. I learned by looking up videos and learning how to do a cone made out of cardboard. I have never made something out of cardboard before. At first, it was difficult to get it in to the right shape but at the end it came out perfect. I will be able to use this new technique in the future.
I observed.I at first wanted to create a bat. I observed very closely pictures online and decided I wanted to make wings coming out of my painted pumpkin and add ears. After observing my sketch more closely I realized I wasn't really feeling the idea. I looked at it and I decided that it looked like a unicorn, so my final idea was a "dark unicorn".
I took risks.I wanted to draw my grandpa and I in the artwork. Drawing people has never been my strongest place in art, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to put it in my artwork. I decided that since I really wanted to represent my grandpa, I would try it. I asked Ms. Schumann for help and she helped realize that they were just shapes. I practiced on a separate piece of paper and after a few tries it worked out well. I was successful by using different media because the soft pastels were too thick. I used a different type of pencil that I have used before. I also have never drawn a tree with soft pastels before, but with the help of Ms. Schumann she helped me accomplish the national tree of El Salvador. I then finally finished my artwork that I am very proud of. I solved problems. This picture shows the art before being blended in. One of my challenges were getting the right colors to go together and form a sunset and blending in the colors. It was difficult for me to blend in just right because I was scared it was going to look wierd. I decided to watch more videos to help me out. At the end, I decided to make it dull in case I messed it up, so I think I didn't fully overcome this challenge and that's something I would like to work on.
I communicated through my work.My artwork is very personal. The art is demonstrating how important the relationship I have with my grandfather is to me. In the artwork you can see my grandpa in I standing next to each other looking at the sunset. You can also see we are standing next to the national tree of El Salvador. I decided to put that tree there to show that we are in El Salvador and it's an important place for me. My grandpa is currently ill and he is far away from us. He has been my father figure since I've been born and it is very hard to be away from him in times like this. This artwork shows a little bit of what is very important to me in my life.
My artwork is intended to say that I appreciate what I have and what's important to me. The treble clef means how important music is to me. Then there is "2019" which is my graduation year. Graduating high school is important for me and my family. Also, the initials on the sides are valuable people in my life. This artwork is very "me" because it has everything I love.
